Best NDIS Plan Managers in Melbourne (2026)
Melbourne has the highest concentration of NDIS participants of any Australian city. Victoria was one of the first states to trial the NDIS — the Barwon region launched in 2013 — which means Melbourne’s participant community is mature, its provider market is deep, and the competition between plan managers for Victorian clients is strong. That is good news for participants: you have more options here than almost anywhere else in the country. This guide identifies which providers from our national comparison panel have the strongest presence in Victoria, and what to consider when choosing between a Melbourne-based and a fully remote plan manager.

Do Melbourne participants need a locally based plan manager?
In most cases, no — and this is one of the most common misconceptions about plan management. Your plan manager never needs to visit you in person. Their entire role is financial: receiving invoices from your providers, processing claims with the NDIA, paying providers, and giving you budget visibility through a portal or app. None of this requires geographic proximity. The largest and highest-rated plan managers in our comparison — My Plan Manager, Leap In!, and NDSP — operate entirely online and serve Melbourne participants as well as participants in rural Victoria without any functional difference in service.
Where a Melbourne office does make a difference is if you specifically want face-to-face onboarding support or if your situation is complex enough that you value in-person meetings. Plan Partners and Bright Plan Management both have Melbourne operations and can accommodate participants who prefer local contact. Bright Plan Management in particular positions itself as a boutique provider for Victorian participants who want a smaller, more personal service — this comes with a slightly lower portal score than the national leaders, but strong direct support.
For participants in outer Melbourne suburbs, the Mornington Peninsula, or regional Victoria, the online-first providers often serve better than local boutique options simply because their systems are more robust and their staffing is not geography-dependent. My Mobile Plan Manager has a specific focus on participants outside metropolitan hubs, including regional Victoria. For inner-Melbourne participants with complex plans and many providers, My Plan Manager’s invoice processing speed and portal quality make it the strongest all-round choice.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Melbourne-based plan manager?
No. Plan managers work entirely online — they receive invoices from your providers, process claims with the NDIA, and give you budget visibility through a portal. None of this requires your plan manager to be physically located in Melbourne. The highest-scoring providers in our comparison (My Plan Manager, Leap In!, Plan Partners) all service Melbourne participants to the same standard as any other location. A local office is only a meaningful advantage if you specifically want in-person support during onboarding or have a particularly complex situation that benefits from face-to-face contact.
Can I switch to a different plan manager mid-plan?
Yes — at any time, with no cost and no impact on your NDIS plan or funding. You give written notice to your current plan manager (typically two to four weeks as per your service agreement), sign an agreement with your new provider, and your new plan manager handles the NDIA notification. The transition takes approximately two weeks in total. You do not need a plan review or NDIA approval to switch between plan managers. For a full walkthrough of the switching process, see our guide on how to compare and choose a plan manager.
Is plan management free for Melbourne NDIS participants?
Yes — plan management costs NDIS participants nothing, regardless of which state they live in. The NDIA funds plan management at approximately $104.45 per month for adults from a separate Improved Life Choices budget that does not reduce your Core Supports, therapy funding, or equipment budget. This rate and the funding mechanism are the same across all Australian states and territories, including Victoria. If plan management is not currently in your plan, you can request it at your next planning meeting or by calling the NDIA on 1800 800 110 to request a mid-plan variation.
