Are NDIS Plan Managers Registered? What the Rules Say

Magnifying glass on a desk, representing the question: are NDIS plan managers registered?

NDIS Guide

Are NDIS plan managers registered? Yes. The NDIS says plan managers must be registered providers, and that matters because you are trusting them with your budget and your providers’ payments. This guide explains what the rule means for you, three steps to check a plan manager’s registration, and what to do if something does not add up. New to plan management? Start with our plain-English guide to what NDIS plan management is.

Quick answer: Yes. The NDIS says all plan managers need to be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. You can check by searching the NDIS provider finder and ticking “plan management” under registration group, or by searching the Commission’s Provider Register, which shows providers that are currently registered and those whose registration was suspended or revoked.

Facts checked against NDIS.gov.au and the NDIS Commission website on 19 September 2026. The NDIS is updating its website for new NDIS laws, so check the latest guidance before you sign up.

Are NDIS plan managers registered? What the rule says

The NDIS is clear on this. Its page on what a plan manager is says plan managers must be registered providers. Its guidance on how to find a plan manager says all plan managers need to be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

The Commission is the national body that registers and regulates NDIS providers. On its page about support coordination and plan management, it says there are no changes to requirements for plan managers. Registration is not something you have to ask for. It is a requirement for anyone offering plan management, and you are entitled to check it.

What registration means for you in practice

Registration sits behind a set of expectations the NDIS publishes for plan managers. These are the ones that affect you most:

01

Claims match your plan

A plan manager checks that each claim is in line with your plan, your budget and NDIS supports, and gets your approval before submitting claims.

02

Monthly statements

The NDIS says plan managers must give you a monthly financial statement showing what you have spent, your remaining balance and any concerns about overspending.

03

Timely payment

NDIS guidance says plan managers should pay providers within 2 business days of receiving payment from the NDIS.

04

Records and disputes

Plan managers keep records of how your funding is spent, and the NDIS lists helping to resolve payment disputes as one of their tasks.

Registration also means there is somewhere to take a problem. The Commission receives complaints and reportable incident notifications about plan managers. Our guide to how to complain about an NDIS plan manager explains who handles what.

How to check whether a plan manager is registered

It takes a few minutes. Do it before you sign a service agreement.

Step 1

Search the NDIS provider finder

Enter your suburb or postcode and choose the suburb from the list. Click “registration group” in the sidebar and tick “plan management”. The results show providers registered to deliver plan management, with their website, phone number, email and contact address.

Step 2

Check the Commission’s Provider Register

The NDIS Commission’s Provider Register lists providers registered with the Commission. You can search for providers that are currently registered or that have had their registration suspended or revoked. The last update date for the data is at the bottom of the search results.

Step 3

Ask the plan manager directly

Ask for their registration details and confirm the business name matches what you found. While you have them on the phone, ask the other questions in our guide to how to choose an NDIS plan manager. To compare registered providers side by side, see our comparison of the best NDIS plan managers.

Do your other providers need to be registered?

No. The registration rule applies to your plan manager. The NDIS says that when you plan-manage your funding, you can choose providers who are registered or unregistered, and you can negotiate the price of your supports. You tell your providers who your plan manager is so they send their invoices to the right place.

Choosing an unregistered provider does not change what your plan manager can pay. The NDIS says plan managers cannot pay invoices above the NDIS price limit, whether the provider is registered or not. Our guide to NDIS invoice requirements shows what a provider’s invoice should include, and our guide to an NDIS service agreement covers what to agree with any provider up front.

Are support coordinators registered too?

The rules are different. The NDIS Commission has said it consulted on and considered making registration mandatory for support coordinators, and that in December 2025 this reform work was paused. That is a separate question from plan management, where there are no changes to the requirements.

If you use a support coordinator, ask whether they are registered, and search the Provider Register the same way. Our explainer on support coordinators and plan managers shows how the two roles differ.

What to do if you have concerns

If you cannot find a plan manager on the register, check that you have their exact business name, then ask them to confirm their registration. If you are still not satisfied, you have options:

  • Report a conduct or quality concern to the NDIS Commission on 1800 035 544, or report an issue online.
  • Call the NDIA on 1800 800 110 with questions about your plan, funding or payments.
  • Change plan manager. The NDIS says you can change your plan manager at any time during your plan, and you do not have to wait for it to end. Our guide to how to switch NDIS plan manager shows you how.

You can compare registered options in our list of NDIS plan managers, then use the three checks above before you sign up.

Search the NDIS provider finder and tick “plan management” under registration group, or search the NDIS Commission’s Provider Register. You can also ask the plan manager for their registration details and check that the business name matches.

What if my plan manager is not on the register?
